COLLECTING ANNETTE
Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse Club Magazine

In the late 1950s, Disney, in association with Western Publishing (Whitman & Golden Press), created the wonderful Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse Club Magazine. The name was changed to Walt Disney's Magazine toward the end of the run, which included 22 issues in all.

These magazines always featured superb color photography and stories about Walt Disney's Mouseketeers, including Annette Funicello, Darlene Gillespie, Cubby O'Brien, Bobby Burgess, Doreen Tracey, Cheryl Holdridge, Sharon Baird, Jimmie Dodd, as well as Spin and Marty with David Stollery and Tim Considine, Zorro with Guy Williams, and behind-the-scenes articles about the Disneyland theme park in its early years.

Title: Walt Disney's Big Book

In the late 1950s, Disney, in association with Western Publishing (Whitman & Golden Press), created the wonderful Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse Club Magazine. The name was changed to Walt Disney's Magazine toward the end of the run, which included 22 issues in all.

These magazines always featured superb color photography and stories about Walt Disney's Mouseketeers, including Annette Funicello, Darlene Gillespie, Cubby O'Brien, Bobby Burgess, Doreen Tracey, Cheryl Holdridge, Sharon Baird, Jimmie Dodd, as well as Spin and Marty with David Stollery and Tim Considine, Zorro with Guy Williams, and behind-the-scenes articles about the Disneyland theme park in its early years, only natural since the magazines were sold in the park, including at the Art Corner in Tomorrowland.

This hardcover book was published by Whitman Publishing in 1958. It features some of the best articles, stories and color photos from the third year of the magazine, which by then had dropped the "Mickey Mouse Club" name and simply become Walt Disney's Magazine.

Two volumes came before this one, each collectible because they're a little more permanent than the magazines, a little more durable for reading. Because the readership was getting older and moving on around the time the MMC show went off the air, this is usually the rarest of the three books. There are 124 pages in all!

The cover features a photo of Annette Funicello in her western cowgirl outfit, along with Flora, Fauna and Merryweather from "Sleeping Beauty" on the cover. Inside, the first two pages include a beautiful forest rendering of Briar Rose and Prince Phillip - you can tell the studio was gearing up to promote the release of the new movie that starred the voice of Mary Costa as the princess.

Disney artists and writers credited for work in the book include: Frank Armitage, X. Atencio, Bill Bosche, Eyvind Earl, Sam McKim, Walt Peregoy, Art Riley, Roy E. Disney, Alfred and Elma Milotte, James Algar, Les Clark, Winston Hibler, Stan Jones, Lance Nolley, Ted Sears, and many others, a virtual who's who of Disney from this golden era!

Condition: This book is in overall good condition. The inside is in good condition, white pages, clean and bright, with wear to the interior where the spine strained at the staples and was reinforced with tape a the front; there's also a name written inside. It's otherwise a decent copy for enjoying.
